Obituary of Iva J. Reed

Bolton Landing: Iva J. Reed, 84, of Bradley Lane, Bolton Landing passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 21, 2010 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. Born September 1, 1926 at her family home, she was the daughter of Madeline (Burgess) Ross of Bolton Landing and the late Walter C. Ross. Iva was a graduate of Bolton Central School, and attended Albany Business College. She and her husband, Tom owned and operated The Country Diner in Bolton Landing for over 50 years. They thoroughly enjoyed their time spent each year in Fort Myers, FL with their friends and family. Iva was known for her quick wit and kindness to others, and will be remembered for “Iva’s Rules.” She will be forever cherished by the many people she touched, and shared her great generosity with. You never knew when you would find her home cooking or a special treat left at your doorstep. Iva always put those that were near and dear to her first, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Thomas E. Reed, who passed away on June 11, 2003 and her brother, Walter C. Ross, Jr. Survivors besides her 100 year old mother, include her dear son, William Reed and his wife, Vickie of Bolton Landing; three grandsons: Tyson Reed and his wife, Jan of South Glens Falls; Jamie Curtis and wife, Jolene of Bolton Landing; Jeremy Bennett and his wife, Keri of Bolton Landing; two great grandsons who adored her, Zachary and Mason Curtis. She also leaves behind her sisters: Audrey Vernum; Marge Duggan and her husband, Leo, both of Bolton Landing, Jessie Brauser and her husband, Alan of Croton on the Hudson; her brother, Louis Ross and his wife, Frances of Warrensburg; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many life long friends. Friends may call on Iva’s family from 4-7, Sunday, October 24, 2010, at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am, Monday at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Goodman Avenue, Bolton Landing, with Father Peter G. Young officiating. Rite of Committal will follow in the Bolton Rural Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Iva’s memory to the Bolton Vol. Fire and Rescue Squad, Bolton Landing, NY 12814.
