Diamond Point: Marie A. Burtis, 86, of Trout Lake Road, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at her son’s home following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 31 1922 in Jamaica, NY, she was the daughter of the late Alexis and Charlotte (Arndt) Alexander. Her father was a well known Madison Avenue florist and her mother, the daughter of Caroline Arndt, a Countess related to Napoleon III of France. Charlotte’s brother was Felix Arndt, the noted musical talent who was best known for his piece, “Nola.” Marie loved to draw and could have been a commercial artist but instead followed a long career in business, first working as a bookkeeper in her father’s Madison Avenue store. Later, she went on to work at Ford Motor Co., Crosley Corporation in NYC, Franklin National Bank, Saint Christopher’s Catholic Charities in Seacliff, L.I., and finally Coburn Credit Corporation in Hempstead before retiring and moving to New Bern, NC in 1990. In January of 2004, several years after the passing of her second husband, Robert Burtis, she moved to Bolton Landing to be with her family. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Elaine Cangemi of New Hyde Park. She is survived by her son, John S. Mandinec and his wife, Judy of Bolton Landing; her sisters: Barbara Randazzo of Oceanside; Susan Long of Palm Harbor, FL; her grandchildren: John C. Mandinec of Bolton Landing; Cara Murphy of Hudson Falls; great grandchildren: Alex and Zachary Mandinec; Cheyenne, Joseph, and Shane Murphy. At Marie’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled.
