Obituary of Jay Walter Harrison

THURMAN: Jay Harrison, age 63, made his final ascent on February 4, 2024, from earth to heaven.

(FA circa 33 AD, Jesus Christ)

During his time on earth Jay served God and others for many years as son, husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, friend, climber, guide, explorer, youth leader, virtual warrior, teacher.

In 1982 Jay married his love Robin (Goodwin), and continued their life by moving to the Adirondacks in 1993. Moving to Crane Mountain began an adventure that encompassed  raising a family, becoming part of the church family at Thurman Baptist Church, working with youth in both church and schools, and exploring the Adirondacks. His time as an outdoor guide led people through the whitewater and up walls of ice and rock. Crane Mountain became a focal passion that encompassed hiking, climbing, camping, and even spelunking with others, so much so that Jay was dubbed "The Mayor" of Crane. This passion culminated in him not just putting up extensive new rockclimbing routes for climbers new and old to enjoy forever, but discovering an extended family of climbers who became an integral part of his life.

Jay was father to Orion (Rochelle) Harrison, Autumn (Brian) Ferkaluk, and Forest (Jonathan) Fullam. His grandchildren, who adored their PapaJay, included Adriel, Mira, Odette, Mica, Rowan,Tolkien, and one on the way. Son to Patricia (Barton) Harrison, brother to Jamey (Bonnie) Harrison, Jeff (Kim) Harrison and  Larena Harrison. Uncle to nieces and nephews that he also loved dearly.

He is predeceased by his father Walter Harrison and brother Brian Harrison.

A memorial service for Jay Harrison will be held on Saturday, February 10th at 10:30am at the Thurman Baptist Church. We welcome all to come celebrate his life and share memories.
