Obituary of Douglas R. Potter

Warrensburg: Douglas R. Potter, Sr., 72, of Smith Street, passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 27, 2009 at his home with his loving wife by his side. Born December 15, 1936 in Warrensburg, he was the son of the late Orlie and Margaret (Peggy) (Maxum) Potter. Doug was a US Navy veteran and served during the Korean War. He began his working years as a logger. He also owned and operated Doug’s Tavern in Warrensburg before moving to Florida and spending more than 20 years as a Master Mechanic with Miller Brothers Heavy Equipment Co. in Tampa. He retired back to the north-country in 1999. His favorite pastimes included following NASCAR, enjoying long rides around the area and his frequent stops at Bill’s Diner in Warrensburg. Besides his parents, his first wife, June, his second wife, Suzanne, and his brother, Roger have also predeceased him. Survivors include his wife, Dixie Lee Potter of Warrensburg; his children, Polly Scherer and her husband, Kevin of FL, Tami Allmon and her husband, Dean of FL, Dana Scherer of Thurman, Douglas Potter Jr. and his companion, Sue Topping of FL, Michelle Coleman and her husband, Michael of GA; his sister, Linda; stepchildren: Kim Baker and Matt Perry; his uncle, Lester Maxam; his aunt, Marie Pettis; 11 grandchildren, one great grandson, one nephew, and several cousins. Friends may call on Doug’s family from 2-4 pm Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 4 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Warrensburg Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at CB’s following the service. The family would like to thank the High Peaks Hospice and their staff for their outstanding support during Doug’s final days.
