Elsie L. DeCota, 90 of River Road, passed away, Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Center in Fort Edward following a short illness.
Born June 17, 1918 in Thurman, she was the daughter of the late George Burton Reynolds and Ida (Parker) Reynolds.
Elsie was raised in Thurman and began her education in a one-room school house in Thurman before attending her high school years in Warrensburg.
She spent many years living in the Glens Falls area and worked at Native Textiles for more than 30 years before retiring back to Thurman in the early 1980’s.
Elsie was a very independent woman, whose favorite pastimes included crafts and crocheting. She handmade over 100 afghans for family and friends throughout the years.
She was a member of the Thurman Baptist Church and the Sugar Loaf Senior Citizens.
She is predeceased by her husband of 26 years, William DeCota; her two sisters, Laura Marie Reynolds and Amy Kilburn; and her son in law, Arthur Varney.
Survivors include her three children, Arlene Varney of Hudson Falls, Scott Kenyon and his wife, Janie of Clay Springs, AZ; Mark Kenyon and his wife, Colleen of Gansevoort; her sister, Hannah Delila Walter of Thurman; 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Elsie’s family from 6-7 pm Tuesday evening at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will follow the visitation at 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Herrmann, Pastor of the Thurman Baptist Church officiating.
