Warrensburg: Vera Mitsuda passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, March 23, 2019, in Glens Falls, NY. Vera was born in Brooklyn, to Gregory and Vera (Constantine) Drozdoff who emigrated to the U.S. from Russia in 1914 and 1926, respectively. Vera grew up in Brooklyn and Oceanside, NY, graduating from Oceanside High School in 1945. She completed her undergraduate degree at The City College of New York, and studied teaching English as a second language in graduate school at New York University. Vera worked for the United Nations in Korea and then in Japan where she met and married Taizo Mitsuda on January 25, 1956, returning to the United States the following year. For the rest of her career, Vera enjoyed working for the New York City Board of Education. Vera’s interests included reading widely and keeping up with world and current events, classical music, public radio and television, and the New York Times crossword puzzle. Vera possessed a lifelong passion for education and learning that she passed on to her children. Vera and Taizo raised their family in Queens. Vera is survived by her four children; Alexander Mitsuda (Brooklyn), Theodore Mitsuda (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Tania Tamiko Mitsuda (Warrensburg) and Naomi Mitsuda (Burlington, VT); and her six grandchildren – Julianna Seiki Roen (San Francisco, CA), Katrina Miyuki Roen (Ridgewood), Alexa Mitsuda (Tallahassee, FL), Gregory Mitsuda (Boca Raton, FL), Nicolas Mitsuda and Leila Mitsuda (both of Brooklyn). In addition to her father (1980), mother (1992) and former husband Taizo (1995), Vera was predeceased by her brother, Vladimir Drozdoff, of Cooper, Maine, in 2014.
