Obituary of Brian M. Hayes

Brant Lake: Brian M. Hayes, 52, of State Route 8, passed away, Tuesday evening, April 8, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, at his lifelong residence following a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 9, 1955 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Marvin and Gertrude (Rose) Hayes. Brian was a member of the last graduating class at Horicon High School in 1974, before centralizing into North Warren. Throughout his youth, he was active in Scouting, beginning with Cub Scouts thru Boy Scouts. He began his career in the logging business and construction before starting his own business, Prickly Ash Harvesting in 1989. He also worked as an independent trucker with Kubricky Construction for several years. Brian was a 21 year member of the Horicon Fire Department and recently served as Captain. He also volunteered with the Chestertown EMS for six years and thoroughly enjoyed volunteering on mission trips to Haiti and the Dominican Republic. His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, raising beef cattle and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, of 24 years, Ruth Hayes of Brant Lake; his three children: Sarah; Scott and his companion, Alyssa Nagy; and Alissa Hayes, all of Brant Lake; three sisters, Wilma Mehryari and her husband, Harry of Frisco, TX; Gaynell Wells and her husband, Paul of Warrensburg and Bradenton, FL; Cheryl Hayes of Chestertown; three nephews, Ronald Winchell of Medford, Sean Baker of Chestertown, Aaron Baker of Brant Lake; and his close friend, Jim Hayes of Brant Lake. Friends may call on Brian’s family from 5-9 pm Friday evening at the Horicon Fire Department, Route 8, Brant Lake. Funeral services with full fire company honors will be conducted 11 am Saturday at the Horicon Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Jim Hayes, John Stevens, Dean Wood, Ed Hayes, Mike Hayes Jr., Sean Baker and Ronald Winchell. Burial will follow in Underwood Cemetery on Valentine Pond Rd. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Horicon Fire Department, PO Box 120, Brant Lake, NY 12815.
