Obituary of Muriel E. Goodspeed

North Creek: Muriel E. Goodspeed, 87, of Osborne St., passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 16, 2017 at her home. Born November 10, 1930 in Indian Lake, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ruby (Benton) LaVergne. Muriel married Rudolph Goodspeed from North Creek. They had three children. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her husband died April 17, 2005. When Muriel graduated from Indian Lake Central School in 1949, her desire was to do secretarial work. After caring for her family and raising her children, in 1989 she was employed as a secretary for Hamilton County Community Services in Indian Lake until her retirement in 1998. She also worked previously in the Business Office at Glens Falls Hospital. She worked many years as a caregiver for Lois Martin of North Creek. Her hobbies included gardening, houseplants, knitting, and crocheting. Besides her parents and husband, Muriel was predeceased by four brothers, Louis, Thomas, Donald, and Robert, and four sisters, Christine LaVergne, Hazel Oliver Beaudreau, Virginia Meacheam Lewis, and Dorothy Durkin. Her survivors include two sons, Douglas and his companion, Linda, of Waldorf, MD, and Charles of Johnsburg; one daughter, Deborah and her husband, John Fitzgerald of Meredith, NH; grandchildren, Danielle Goodspeed and David Goodspeed; great-granddaughters, Michaela and Kiya, all of Kentucky; sister-in-law, Donna LaVergne, widow of Robert; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Muriel’s family from noon to 1 pm, Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Alexander Funeral Home, Inc., 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will immediately follow the visitation at 1 pm, at the funeral home with Bill Bibby, officiating. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery, North Creek in the spring.
