Obituary of Jerry Earl Sebald

Warrensburg: Jerry E. Sebald, 79, of Main Street, passed away Friday evening, June 15, 2012 at Glens Falls Hospital with his loving family around him following a brief illness. Born on July 1, 1932 in Saratoga Hospital, he was the son of Earl and Cora (Selby) Sebald. Jerry grew up on Lake Forest in Lake Luzerne and graduated from Lake George High School in 1950. He worked briefly at Storytown, local dude ranches; Rocky Ridge, Painted Pony, and at International Paper Company in Corinth. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 where as S/Sgt. 5 level he supervised testing of the "K" system airborne radar. He received an honorable discharge in 1956 and went on to enroll in the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He graduated in 1959 with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Electronics Communications Technology. Jerry was hired by ITT Corporation in Nutley, NJ immediately following graduation where he worked for 28 years. During this time he traveled the world, and had homes in Virginia Beach, VA, and Burnside NY. He married Elizabeth Osborne from Warrensburgh in 1962. They had two children, Romi Elizabeth and Jennifer Lynn. Upon retirement, Jerry and Liz moved to Warrensburgh to be closer to family. Jerry enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, woodworking and carpentry. He was a voracious reader in his retirement. He loved nature, being outside and his family affectionately referred to him as "the cat whisperer" - he had an uncanny affinity with all animals. Jerry was predeceased by one sister, Barbara Louise and her husband Clyde Rollman. He is also predeceased by sister-in-law Patricia Paul (Don) Sebald. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Warrensburgh; daughters, Romi Sebald and her partner, Peter LaRue of Norwood, and Jennifer Peters and her husband, Mark of Hadley; brother, Donald Sebald of Lake Luzerne; sister-in-law, Joan Osborne; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Schuyler, Jorjienne, Bailey, Chance, Brook, Bekk, and Anneke; niece, Pamela Waite and her husband, Ron and nephew Randy Rollman. Jerry was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross in Warrensburgh and a longtime member of Unity Lodge No. 22, Saratoga Springs Free and Accepted Masons. Many thanks to Dr. Paul Bachman, Dr. Daniel Way, and all the wonderful caregivers in the ER, and Towers 6 and 2 at the Glens Falls Hospital. Friends may call on Jerry’s family from 6-8 pm Wednesday evening, June 20th at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg. A requiem Mass will be offered at 11 am Thursday at the Church of the Holy Cross, Main St. Warrensburg with Fr. Thomas Pettigrew, Rector officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Bolton Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church of the Holy Cross, Warrensburgh, NY.
