Obituary of Riika J.A. Frisbie

Warrensburg: Riika Jacqueline Ann (Castner) Frisbie, better known as “Ricky”, 65 of 10 Gold Street sorrowfully passed away on April 1, 2008, in the loving arms of her family at Glens Falls Hospital following a long battle with cancer. Born on April 24, 1942 in Paramus, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Curtis Monroe & Muriel R. (Scott) Castner. Ricky was raised in Bergen County, New Jersey in the towns of Fardale, Ramsey & Upper Saddle River, when that area was rural & as lovely as the Adirondacks. She attended Edith A. Bogert Elementary School; a one room schoolhouse in Upper Saddle River until 1956 when she was then transferred to Ramsey High School. Ricky attended Ridgewood School of Cosmetology; upon graduation she was employed as a hair stylist by John’s Beauty Shop located in Suffern, New York. She moved permanently to the Adirondacks in 1968; living in Brant Lake, near her parents and other family members for several years before moving to Warrensburg. Ricky was a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She especially enjoyed gardening, always excitably looking forward to the spring to plant & waiting for her crops to yield their tomatoes, etc.; so that she could can them for the upcoming winter months. Other hobbies included the making of several arts & craft items using many recycled products as a base. She had extreme love of animals, the baking of bread and other food items. She had a great love for nature and the entire outdoors. Ricky lovingly looked forward to the summer when she had the opportunity to care for some of her grandchildren during their school vacation. She was predeceased by her parents; former husband Russell I. Bowman and husband, Jules A. Roethke, several aunts, uncles & cousins. She is survived by her loving husband, Vincent A. Frisbie, of Warrensburg; whom she married on March 21, 1999. She is also survived by her children, 2 daughters; Kimberly A. (Bowman) Bennett and husband, Timothy of Glens Falls; Cindy L. (Bowman) Saunders and her companion, Joseph Mabb of Argyle and 1 son; Richard J. Roethke and his companion, Michelle Hamill of Glens Falls. Other survivors include two step-daughters, Katrina Frisbie and Sandra Frisbie, both of Glens Falls, a step-son, Robbie Pronto and his companion, Tracy Lovett of Argyle. Numerous grandchildren, (Kim’s children); Curtis A. Granger and his companion, Melinda Baker, Patrick “Moose” Granger, Peter Granger and Jennifer (Granger) Barody, all of Glens Falls; (Cindy’s children): Amber (Bowman) and husband, Kevin Pelerin, of Ticonderoga, Joseph Saunders, Jr., MaKayla Saunders, Ceara Bowman, Cheyenne Bowman, Vivian Bowman, all of Argyle, in addition Christa Bowman, US. Army; now serving in Afghanistan; as well as 4 step-grandchildren. Also included are two great-grandsons. Two granddaughters are currently awaiting the birth of two more great-grandchildren, Jennifer Barody, who is due at anytime and Ceara Bowman in July. Other survivors include her brother, Curtis V. Castner & his wife, Nancy B. Of Brant Lake; one uncle, Leonard “Bill” Scott also of Brant Lake, one aunt, Mrs. Robert (Katherine “Kitty”) Scott of Hernando, Florida; several cousins; a former sister-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth A. Day (Castner) Summers & husband Kenneth E. of Clifton Park; Other also included 5 nephews & nieces, Douglas V. Castner and companion Katherine (Kathie) Spignardo of Gardner; Brett V. Castner and his wife, Cherie Ann; their daughter, Candace Veronica; all of Galway; Sherelyn J. (Sheri “Kaz”) Castner of Middle Grove; Christal J. (Castner) Van Wickler and her husband, Matthew J.; their children, Christina Joy, Caroline Alyssa and Nicholas Ryan, all of Columbia, South Carolina; in addition, Kelly J. (Castner) Baldwin and husband, Brian K. Of Glens Falls; Great- niece, Elisabeth E.(Lisa Castner) Schoonmaker and her husband Joseph, of Pine Bush; and great-nephew, Duane A. Spignardo and his wife Melissa A, plus their two children, Adeline N. & Connor D. Spignardo of Wallkill; and several surviving cousins in the U.S. and Sweden. Ricky will be sorrowfully missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family wishes to thank Dr. Biss and Dr. Navatia and the nursing staff on Tower 2 at the Glens Falls Hospital for the exceptional care she received. Friends may call on Ricky’s family from 5-7 pm Friday evening at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A service to celebrate her life will follow the visitation at 7 pm Friday at the funeral home with Sister Linda Hogan of St. Cecilia’s RC Church officiating. A spring interment will be at the Brant Lake Cemetery, where she can be near her parents per her request. In lieu of flowers at this time, the family wishes to have contributions to the American Cancer Society or the ASPCA.
