Obituary of Lori Anne Simmes

Please share a memory of Lori to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bolton Landing: Lori Anne Simmes, 45, beloved daughter of Harry and Kathleen Simmes left her childhood home Wednesday evening, May 19th, 2010, surrounded by her family and has taken on a new journey. Her plans include seeing her grandmother and maybe a little dirty dancing with Patrick Swayze. Lori was born in Glens Falls on May 25, 1964. She attended Bolton Central School until her senior year when she took on the task of helping with her terminal ill grandmother. She graduated from South High in 1982. In December of 82 she joined the military and began a 21 year career with the Navy and her journey around the world. She was fortunate to have been stationed in Bermuda, Nevada, Mississippi, Hawaii, Boston, Bahrain and Belgium, but her greatest love was being stationed in Italy. Lori returned from the military in September of 03 and first worked for Behan Communications, and in 2005 took an Administrative Assistant position at C.R. Bard. In 2007 she was so proud to have purchased her own home and became an avid gardener. In March of 2009 she was diagnosed with a GBM tumor which she and her friends named “fat bastard” Lori never lost hope that she could beat her cancer. She inspired many with her courage and never ending sense of humor. During her ordeal her family will be eternally grateful to all her friends at C.R. Bard. They have been with her since the beginning and have supported her namely: Kristen, Beth, Patty, Carol, John, Suzanne, Keith, her very special friends Linda and Cheryl, her bosses Jason and Mark and her faithful companion Rich. Johnny who lives up the road and her next door neighbor, Michelle. Her high school buddies Jackie and Pat and Mr. & Mrs. Curri and Bob Booten also showed her great support, as did many others that we may have forgotten to mention. Besides her parents she leaves behind her special brother David and his sons D.J and Johnathan. Her two stepbrothers Harry and his daughters, Rebecca and Jodee and Lenny and his son Nicholas. Her Aunt Rosemary McGee and her Aunt Vira and Uncle Dick Simmes and her Uncle Anthony Ross. She is also survived by several cousins. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention that our two Aussies, Taylor and Shela slept by her side during all her naps. Funeral services are private. A celebration for friends of Lori and her family will take place at the Queensbury Fire House, Lafayette Street, Queensbury on June 5th from 2 to 6 pm. We wish to thank the Warren County Nurses and High Peaks Hospice nurses for their care and Dr Weaver and Dr. Frank for their expert care and compassion. At Lori’s request, for all that C.R. Bard employees have done for her, she suggests that donations be made to a Sunshine Fund to help the next family at Bard that is struck with a major illness through the Lori A. Simmes Memorial Fund that has been set up at any branch of Glens Falls National Bank. Please visit www.alexanderfh.net for online guestbook, condolences and directions.
