Obituary of Clifford O. Belden

Warrensburg: Clifford O. Belden, 77, of Mountain Avenue, went into the arms of the lord on Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a brief illness. Born on March 9, 1932 in Horicon, He was the son of the late Forrest and Rosetta (Hill) Belden, and step-son of the late Elwin Moffitt. Following his graduation from the Chestertown Central School in 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Myrna Markey on June 7, 1952 in Lowville. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Cliff owned and operated his own logging business for many years and was eventually elected Highway Superintendent for the town of Warrensburg where he served for 14 years. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a Den leader for the Boy Scouts, a member of the Free and Accepted Masons in Warrensburg, and a member of the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church. Cliff enjoyed spending time in the North Country, even though he was a Florida resident, his heart was always with his family. When he wasn’t with his beloved family, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He was often seen supporting his family during their various sporting events. Besides his parents and step-father, he is predeceased by his sisters: Elizabeth Belden, Ethel Hayes, Wilma Abare Eldridge, and June Potter; and brother, David Moffitt. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Myrna Belden; his two sons: Thomas C. Belden and his wife, Susan of Warrensburg; Bruce F. Belden and his wife, Cindy of Thurman; four grandchildren: Thomas C. Belden, Jr.; Brett S. Belden and his wife, Kate; Stacy and Ryan Belden; his great-grandson, Zachary Belden; He is also survived by his sister, Alice Prosser; his brothers: Harold Moffitt and his wife, Susan of Warrensburg; and George Moffitt of Bolton Landing. Friends may call on Cliff’s family from 9 to 11 am on Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11 am at the funeral home, beginning with a Masonic service and the Rev. Richard Leonard, Pastor of the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church, officiating. Burial with military honors will take place in the Warrensburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church or to the Warrensburg Fire Department. Cliff’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Joseph Mihindu for his compassion and years of treatment.
