North Creek:
Patricia R. “Tudy” Severance, 82, of Peaceful Valley Rd., passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Argyle, surrounded by her loving family.
Born October 27, 1927 in North Creek, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Lillian (Pereau) Yandon.
Tudy was a lifelong resident of the area and married the love of her life, Charles R. Severance on January 10, 1946 after her Marine Corp. husband to-be, sent her money to buy her engagement ring while he was stationed in the Pacific during WW II.
Following their marriage, the couple resided briefly at Barton Mines where a tragic house fire clamed all belongings including their wedding gifts. Shortly thereafter, they bought an old farm house with 169 acres of land on the Peaceful Valley Road, which became the cherished family homestead.
Tudy enjoyed raising her children and loved family togetherness. Many will hold dear fond memories of Tudy’s amazing kitchen skills; especially her baked beans, split pea soup, chicken and biscuits and of course her mint ice tea. All of which were happily provided for any and all community events.
She was well known in the north-country for her incredible sense of humor and involvement in community affairs.
For over 20 years, Tudy could be found working at Morwood’s IGA in North Creek.
She was a lifelong communicant of St. James RC Church in North Creek, where she began playing the church organ at the age of 11 and continued as the church organist up until a few years ago.
She was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 629 Ladies Aux, the North Creek Vol. Fire Co. Aux and the Adirondack Tri-County Aux, where she volunteered entertaining the residence with her music.
She was an accomplished bridge player winning many tournaments over the years and inherited her father’s love of the Saratoga Race Track.
Besides her parents, loved one who have predeceased her include, her beloved husband, Chuck Severance, on April 11, 1993 after 47 years of marriage; two infant sons, Daniel and Charles; her brother, Harold James Yandon in 1980 and her niece, Barbara Klippel in 1997.
Tudy leaves behind her three children, Cathy Kimmerly and her husband, Wayne of South Glens Falls, Jan Severance of Hudson Falls, and Scott Severance and his wife, Connie Freebern of Queensbury; four grandchildren, Aron and Marc Kimmerly and Kate and Clare Severance; sister in law, Lois Yandon of North Creek; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
