Obituary of Robert H. Lanfear

Lake George: Robert H. Lanfear, 80, of Flat Rock Road, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 12, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 15, 1928, he was the son of the late William and Leona (Chase) Lanfear. Robert served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. He served as the Superintendent of Public Works for the Town of Lake George for 15 years. He also owned several local businesses including: Dizzy’s Restaurant and Bar, and Lanfears’ Country Tavern. He also worked for Kubricky Construction and Bromley’s Auto Dealership for a number of years. Even though Bob was a busy man, he would always find time to serve his community. He was a longtime member of the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Kiwanis Club, and also the American Legion Post 374. He was also one of the founding members of the Superintendent of Warren County Association of Towns. Bob enjoyed many hobbies. In his early years, he was the New York State Motorcycle Champion for three years running. He also enjoyed racing stock cars at numerous local tracks. He was also a member of the Adirondack Fiddler’s Association. In his later years, he enjoyed cruising the neighborhoods on his trusty John Deere tractor. Besides his parents, Bob is predeceased by his son, John Lanfear, sister, Alma McDermott and his brother, Craig Lanfear. He is survived by his children, Michael R. and his wife, Mary of Lake George; Robin Norton and her husband, Lenny of Lake George; William Lanfear of Ogdensburg; Keith Lanfear of Warrensburg; Christopher Lanfear and his wife, Elizabeth of Gansevoort; Robert Lanfear Jr., and his friend, Katie of Warrensburg; and Marchelle Lanfear and friend, Derek Mitchell of Stillwater, OK; Sisters: Margaret Batease and her husband, Floyd of Queensbury; Helen McDermott of South Glens Falls; and Pat Shippee of Queensbury; along with 17 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. At Bob’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 am, Wednesday, at the North Caldwell Cemetery, Truesdale Hill Road, Lake George, with Father Nellis Tremblay, officiating. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Lake George Volunteer Fire Company, or The High Peaks Hospice.
