Norma Mary (Noxon) Rawson, 85, of State Route 28, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness.
Born April 26, 1933 in Ticonderoga, she was the daughter of the late C. Ernest and Elinor (Eldridge) Noxon.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and a 1951 graduate from Johnsburg Central School and attended Green Mountain Junior College in Poultney, VT, and obtained a degree in Secretarial Science in 1954.
Norma married Carroll Wright Rawson of Whiting, VT on October 16, 1955 at the Eldridge /Noxon homestead in Wevertown and for a brief period, relocated to the Rawson family farm in Whiting. She and Carroll moved back to Wevertown in 1959 and worked in the family business, Braley & Noxon Hardware Store, eventually obtaining ownership until it was sold on October 30, 2003.
She served as Deputy Clerk for the Town of Johnsburg for 15 years until being elected as Town Clerk in 1984 and held the position until her retirement in 2003.
She was a longtime member of the Wevertown Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, North Creek Unit 629 until it disbanded.
She was very proud of her family heritage and was well known for her delicious macaroni and cheese casserole at many community gatherings.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband, Carroll Rawson who passed away in 2010.
She is survived by two sons, William E. Rawson and his wife, Susan and Charles W. Rawson, both of North Creek; a daughter, Mary E. Cooper of Wevertown; three grandchildren, Lyndsey Rawson, Sara Rawson, and Ethan Cooper; as well as several cousins.
Friends may call on Norma’s family from 2 to 4 pm, Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will immediately follow the visitation at 4 pm, at the funeral home with Rev. Nancy Barrow, Pastor of the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will take place in East Shoreham Cemetery at the convenience of her family.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Johnsburg Emergency Squad in Norma’s memory.
