Joseph A. Smarro, Jr., 54, formerly of South Glens Falls, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Kingwood Medical Center in Texas.
Born March 28, 1961 in Albany, he was the son of Karen (Frey) Houle of South Glens Falls, and the late Joseph A. Smarro, Sr.
He was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School, class of 1979. Later that year, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy in 1979 and honorably served his country for nearly ten years.
Joe worked in the power industry for over 24 years, and was most recently employed by IEM Energy Consultants, Inc.
He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, playing golf, watching football, especially his NY Giants, and his favorite NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
Joe married Valerie Wilde on November 28, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie Smarro, formerly of Warrensburg; two children, Nicole Smarro of S. Glens Falls, Joseph (Tarah) Smarro of San Antonio, TX; daughter-in-law, Christine Smarro of Dallas, TX; step-children, Katherine Bederian and John (Andrea) Bederian, all of Warrensburg; six grandchildren, Alexis, Gavin, Max, Trista, and Blake Smarro, and Natalie Bederian; sister, Michele Smarro of S. Glens Falls; special “brother”, Art (Maryann) Frey of Schoharie; brothers-in-law, Jim and Bud Wilde, both of Thurman; mother-in-law, Roberta Wilde of Thurman; and nephew, Jason Tranowicz of Glens Falls.
Friends may call on Joe’s family from 11 am to 1 pm, Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 1 pm, Thursday, at the funeral home, with Sister Linda Hogan, parish life director of St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Reynolds Cemetery, Thurman.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Joseph’s memory to your local Veterans of Foreign War or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
