Obituary of Alan J. Knipe

Lake George: Alan J. Knipe, 85, of Lake George, NY and North Fort Myers, FL, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital. Born December 22, 1932 in Albany, NY he was the son of the late James and Mildred (Allen) Knipe. He was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Knipe and daughter, Jeannette Knipe. Alan is survived by his wife and best friend of 64 years, Ruth (Luke) Knipe of Lake George, NY and North Fort Myers, FL, his children James Knipe of Newtown CT, and Kathleen and her husband Thomas Cunane of Newburgh NY, five grandchildren, Jeannette Knipe, Kerri (Matt) Sanzone, Kelly, Kevin, and Kaitlynn Cunane, and great grandson, Ryan Jeffrey Sanzone. Alan started working for the New York Telephone Company while attending Siena College. He continued his career with the phone company until his retirement in 1991. He then opened a consulting business with close friend Ron Schlitt. Alan and Ruth spent 42 wonderful summers on Lake George with family and life-long friends. Alan was active in the Cannon Point community and a “fixture” on the dock when he wasn’t out on his boat fishing, picnicking or touring the lake. During the winter months, Alan and Ruth spent 22 warm years with their Heritage “family”. He spent many hours golfing, golfing, golfing! Friends may call on Alan’s family from 5-8 PM, Thursday October 4th, at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Friday at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 51 Mohican St., Lake George, NY. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc. 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh NY, 12550.
