Obituary of James L. Armstrong

Newcomb/Cortlandt Manor: James LeRoy Armstrong passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday December 7th 2017. He was born in Johnsburgh, NY October 9th 1933 to Robert LeRoy Armstrong and Mary Maddison Armstrong. He moved to Tahawus, NY in 1943 and graduated from Newcomb Central School, where he excelled in music and all sports, especially baseball where he was called to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers along with many other teams, but the US Army had other plans. He was drafted on his birthday in 1953 and served 2 years during The Korean War as a MP and played baseball for the 1st Army team. He married Shirley Mae Stanley on July 17th 1953, after dating her since the 5th grade. He worked at National Lead Industries for 14.5 years and then moved to Cortlandt Manor, NY in 1967 to start a new business, The A & B Tent Company. He loved to visit, pray and share the gospel with everyone he met. He served as a National Director of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International. He served many years as a board member and Elder of the Yorktown Assembly Of God Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting, and was well loved by all. He was predeceased by his son Robert James Armstrong and survived by his wife Shirley Stanley Armstrong (they were married 64 years), brother George Armstrong and wife Gertie, daughters Bonnie Agosta, Beth Heady, Susan Krajeski, and sons Paul Armstrong and Peter Armstrong along with their spouses Joe Agosta, Roger Heady, Walter Krajeski and Michelle Armstrong. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and relatives. Friends are invited to call on James’s family from 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 11 am, in the gymnasium at the Newcomb Central School, Route 28N, Newcomb. Burial will follow in Newcomb Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the Yorktown Assembly of God, 253 Mahopac Ave, Yorktown Heights, NY 10580 at 11 am, Saturday December 30, 2017.
