Obituary of Grace K. Huggard

Johnsburg Grace Koziel Huggard, 98, formerly of Crosby Rd., passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at the Adirondack Tri-County Health & Rehabilitation Center, North Creek. Born on September 12, 1907 in the Bronx, she was the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Murphy) Koziel. Grace moved to the Garnet Lake area in 1970 from Blue Point, Long Island. As a young married woman, she was one of the founding members of the League of Women Voters in Baldwin, NY. Later she was a leader in fair housing and an active member of the Bayport Methodist Church. As a resident of Johnsburg, Grace was a founding member of the Upper Hudson Environmental Action Committee and active with the League of Women voters in Glens Falls. She was a member of Saint Christopher‘s Episcopal Church in North Creek. Grace’s portrait was included in Dr. Dan Way’s book, “All In a Day’s Work”. She was predeceased by two husbands, James B. Rowland and Franklyn George Huggard. Grace is survived by three sons and their families, Alan Huggard and his wife Kit of Johnsburg; Stuart Huggard and his wife Suzanne of Deering, NH; and Charles Huggard and his wife Nancy of Gainesville, FL; five grandchildren, Elaine Hersey and her husband John of Queensbury, Franklyn Huggard and his wife Marie of Roseville, CA, Kate Ericson and her husband Jay of Edmonds, WA; Jennifer Ferreira and her husband Christopher of Nantucket, MA, and Laura Murphy and her husband Dan of Sayville. 6 great-grandchildren A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, March 11, at 11 am at Saint James R.C. Church in North Creek. At Grace’s request there will be no calling hours. Private Interment will take place at Long Island National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
