Charles Anthony Gangemi, 68, went to The Lord Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Durham VA Medical Center, following a lengthy battle with chronic lung disease.
Born September 13, 1946 in Newburgh, he was the son of the late Charles and Virginia (Cassazza) Gangemi.
Charles was a United States Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam era.
He was a city boy who fell in love with the beauty of the Adirondacks, affectionately referring to the region as “God’s Country”.
Charles was known as a master mechanic, and was a widely skilled handyman. He was loved by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by a brother-in-law, James McConnell.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Sharon J. (McConnell) Gangemi; three daughters, Maria V. Gangemi and her companion, David Janpol, of NY, Virginia “Gina” M. (Gangemi) Vitiello and her husband, Steven, of NY, and Angela D. “Little Kid” Gangemi of NC; three grandchildren, Joseph, Mia, and Steven Vitiello, all of NY; six siblings, Diane Canard of FL, David and Terry Gangemi of VA, Robert Gangemi of FL, Al and Pamela Gangemi of TX, Charlene Berbrick and her husband, Kenneth, of FL, and John and Lori Gangemi of CA; his loving in-laws, John and Judy McConnell of NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Charles’ family from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm, Friday, April 10, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Home, Inc., 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Saturday, April 11, 2015 at St. Isaac Jogues Roman Catholic Church, 86 Riverside Dr., Chestertown, with Father John O’Kane presiding.
Rite of Committal will follow in Chester Rural Cemetery, Chestertown.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Charles’ memory to the Johnsburg EMS, PO Box 413, North Creek, NY 12853.
