Obituary of Sydney M. Barnes

Thurman: Sydney M. Barnes, 64, of Thurman, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2006 at home following several long illnesses. Syd was born February 8, 1941 in Bayonne, NJ, he was the son of the late Sydney M. and Emily (Sargent) Barnes. He graduated from Westwood High School in Westwood, NJ and Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ. In 1965, he married Amanda Wingate in Westwood. In 1972, Syd and his wife built their home in Thurman and moved to the north country. They had two children, Joanna and John. Before his illness and retirement, Syd was employed by Adirondack Scenic, Inc, first in Warrensburg and later in its subsequent locations. In addition to his wife of 41 years, Syd is survived by his children, Joanna, who currently lives in New York City, and John, his wife Natalie, and one grandson, Joaquin Barnes, who reside in North Adams, MA. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Barnes of Duluth, GA and several nieces and nephews. At his request, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
