Obituary of Jane B. Briggs

Warrensburg: Jane Briggs, 90, of 74 Bowen Hill Road, passed away Tuesday, July 14,2009, at the Pines Nursing Home in Glens Falls. Born March 6, 1919 in Peking China, she was the daughter of Louis and Georgiana (Nelson) Buckner. Jane graduated from Washington State University with a degree in English Literature. She served during World War II in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged December 1945 reaching the rank of Technical Sergeant. On April 30th, 1947 she married Charles Frederick Briggs. She was a homemaker to Fred and their children until his death in 1969. After 25 years as a legislative assistant in Annapolis, Maryland in the House of Representatives she retired in 1994. She moved to Warrensburg in 1994 to be closer to her grandchildren and continued her service as a volunteer in numerous organizations including; the Glens Falls Hospital Guild, Literacy Volunteers, Warren County Tourism, The ADK Mountain Club and more. Jane also continued her adult education opportunities at Skidmore College. In addition to Jane’s accomplishments, she was fortunate to have traveled the world, living in China, the East Carolina Islands, Hawaii, Guam, and the Philippines. In her senior years she enjoyed traveling with friends to Great Britain, Alaska and Europe. Jane was an avid reader, bowled a perfect 300 game, and loved spending time with her family. Besides her parents, Jane was predeceased by her twin sister Mary at birth; her sisters, Louise and Elizabeth; her husband, Fred; son, James and daughter, Terrell. Jane is survived by her daughter Reen Yarmowich and her husband Tom; granddaughter Kate Belden, her husband Brett; and grandsons, Joe and Wil all of Warrensburg; daughter-in-law Patricia Ahern-Briggs of San Diego, California; son-in-law, David Manning of Annapolis Maryland; and son Steve Briggs of San Diego, California. At her request, there are no calling hours scheduled. Jane’s wishes were to be cremated and returned to her beloved Puget Sound in Washington State. In lieu of flowers, and in the true spirit of Jane, friends wishing to express appreciation for her commitment and service to others are encouraged to volunteer some of their time. The family would like to thank all staff at The Pines for their loving care that aided Janey in meeting her needs. Jane was a kind and generous soul and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
