BOLTON LANDING: Wayne A. Ryder, 73 years old, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 14, 2024.
Wayne was born on April 14, 1951, to the late Raymond and Henrietta Ryder in the house adjacent to where he later lived. He graduated from Bolton Central School in 1969 and soon after enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country in Vietnam. Upon returning to Bolton, Wayne began working for the New York State Department of Transportation before transitioning to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. There, he dedicated 33 years of service, retiring in 2013. Throughout his career, Wayne worked on Lake George, constructing docks, platforms, fireplaces, and other items to prepare the islands for visitors to enjoy.
Wayne was a talented guitarist and played in a local band called The Country Ryders. It was during one of their gigs in the early 1970s, at a square dance, that Wayne met the love of his life, Debra (French) Ryder. The two were married in 1973 at the Bolton Baptist Church and recently celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Wayne found immense joy in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing at his favorite spot, Edgecomb Pond. He also cherished his daily drives around town, feeding and watching the birds, camping, and tackling his favorite crossword puzzles. Known for his generosity and selflessness, Wayne was always eager to help other. His senior high school quote, “Strength of hand and a warm heart will mold his future,” perfectly captured the essence of who he was.
Besides his parents, Wayne is predeceased by his siblings Beth Younes and Veronica Kincaid.
Left to cherish Wayne’s memory is his beloved wife, Debra Ryder; daughter Bobbi-Jo (Jeff) Melander and son Wayne Ryder; grandchildren Rachael and Meghan O’Connor; brothers Bill Ryder, Leroy (Doreen) Ryder and Gary (Teddi Jo) Ryder; sister June Curren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
