Obituary of Morgan F. Crandall

WARRENSBURG:  Morgan Frederick Crandall, 98 years old, formally of 25 Summit Street, Warrensburg, NY, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024 at the Elderwood Care Facility in North Creek.

Morgan was born in Stony Creek, on December 17, 1925 to Charles Crandall and Melissa (Mattison) Crandall. He was predeceased by his wife Laura Fay Fish Crandall. They were married on September 10, 1949 and enjoyed 74 years of marriage prior to Fay’s passing last year. He was also predeceased by brothers Gordon Crandall, Chet Crandall, Ernest Crandall, Martin Crandall, and sisters Madeline Combs and Gertrude Prosser. Morgan is survived by his two children and their spouses, Linda Crandall Lamy (William) and Larry Morgan Crandall (Lynn) as well as 3 grandchildren, Ronald Frederick Lamy (Laure) and Carrie Lamy Dooley (Chris) and Nikki Lee Crandall. Papa was idolized by great grandkids, Emma Lamy, Will Lamy, Sydney Lamy, Erin Dooley and Justin Dooley. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Morgan grew up on the family farm located on Fodder Road in Stony Creek. He actually did walk three miles in the snow to get to school at the one room schoolhouse located on Lanfear Road. Later the family moved to Warrensburg and he attended school in Warrensburg.

Morgan remembered life on the farm with fondness and told many stories of his childhood life including working in the woods.

He joined the Army during World War 2. He was trained as a paratrooper and also as an anti-tank specialist. He served with C Company of the 272^nd Regiment of the 69^th Infantry Division and was thrust into combat during the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. He froze his feet walking across Europe in the winter of 1944-45. He was standing on the banks of the Elbe River in Germany ready to move on to Berlin if needed when Germany surrendered. He returned to Warrensburg after the war to begin the next chapter of his life.

Morgan worked for many years at D.E. Pasco and Sons. He handled the grain operation and was the last person to operate the Grist Mill located on River Street in Warrensburg. Morgan joined the Warrensburg Highway Department and ran the Town Water Treatment plant. After retiring from full-time employment, he could be seen mowing lawns and shoveling snow for people in Town. He worked part-time for the Town taking care of flower gardens and newly planted trees in the parks. He was a crossing guard for many years finally retiring at the age of 90. He said he liked to keep busy.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg. He was a frequent worker at the Churchs’ Food Pantry founded by his wife Fay. They operated the Food Pantry for 30 years, finally relinquishing their duties at the start of “Covid” and both Morgan and Fay were in their mid- 90’s.

Morgan was a past member of the American Legion Post 446 in Warrensburg.

Morgan liked to eat at any restaurant. The Golden Corral and Gambles were favorite stops. Morgan and Fay liked to go for car rides, especially visiting the areas where they grew up rehashing tales of a simpler era.

Morgan was devoted to his family and always provided a helping hand to any building project, tree job, landscaping job or just to be at an event to support his grandkids or great grandkids.

Morgan and Fay liked to travel and visited both Canada and Mexico. They traveled across the United States dipping their toes in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Some of their favorite trips were to the Maine Coast.

Morgan was a kind, thoughtful, humble man who had a great dry sense of humor. Extending a helping hand to others came easily to him. His pleasures were simple. He liked to chop and pile wood, he liked bowling, fishing, picnics and family gatherings. He was a NASCAR fan.

Morgan’s family would like to thank the staff at the Elderwood Care Facility in North Creek for their compassionate care of him during his stay.

The pallbearers will be Ron Lamy, Nikki Crandall, Will Lamy, Justin Dooley, Slugger Corlew and Joe Santolin.

Friends may call on the Family on Thursday, November 21^st, 2024 between 11 am and 1 pm at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 1 pm at the Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor Steve Andrews. Interment will follow at the Warrensburg Cemetery. A reception will follow at the First Presbyterian Church.
