Obituary of Carol M. Alcan
BOLTON LANDING: Carol M. Alcan, 88 years old, of Bolton Landing, NY, passed away on November 1, 2024 after a short illness.
Carol was born on March 28, 1936, in Glens Falls, NY, to the late Maxwell and Agnes (Dooley) Snyder. She grew up in Bolton Landing, attending Bolton Central School and graduating with the Class of 1953. Pursuing her passion for teaching, Carol went on to study early childhood education at Plattsburgh Teaching College. It was in the eighth grade that Carol met Ron, who would become her lifelong companion and husband of 68 years. They were married on August 12, 1956, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Bolton Landing, beginning a love story that would span nearly seven decades.
Together with her husband, Ron, Carol owned and operated Ron’s Hardware Inc. in Bolton Landing, a beloved local business they opened in 1964 and ran until their retirement. Carol’s joy for life was evident in her love of Broadway musicals, her passion for flowers, and her talent for hosting gatherings and decorating for every holiday. Above all, her greatest fulfillment came from her roles as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, which were her true life’s work.
In addition to her parents, Carol was welcomed into heaven by her two brothers, Donald L. (Winifred) Snyder and James D. Snyder.
Carol is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Ronald Alcan, and her daughters: Deborah (Scott) Andersen, Eilene Totzke, Julia (Matthew) Beebe, Sheila (Gregory) Smith, and Alison Starr. She leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Lindsay (Timothy) Byrne, David Smith, Andrea Andersen, Kathleen (Fraser) Tibbetts, Matthew (Angelique) Smith, Michael Andersen, Maxwell Beebe, Jacob Beebe, and Morgan Starr, as well as great-grandchildren Carter, Tucker, Mayla, Jayce Smith, and Benjamin and Collin Tibbetts. Carol will also be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews: Kathy (Reynold) Andersen, Michael (Liz) Snyder, Scott (Donna) Snyder, Sharon Snyder, Stephen Snyder, and Michelle (Carl) Borgh.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Christian Burial on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 10a.m., Bolton Rural Cemetery, located on Route 9N, Lake Shore Drive, in Bolton Landing, NY.
