Obituary of Eugene A. Galvin

Staten Island/North Creek:

Eugene (Gene) A. Galvin, 84, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Elderwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in North Ceek following a long illness. 

Gene was born on February 21, 1940 to the late James F. Galvin & Margaret (McKenna) Galvin of Brooklyn.

In his younger days, Gene worked for Brooklyn Union Gas Company as a meter reader and then at worked on the loading dock for Abraham & Straus Department.  In 1974 he became a sanitation worker at Brooklyn South 11 before retiring after 31 years on June 19, 2004. 

Gene was an huge animal lover and had many dogs and cats through the years. He was an avid Mets fan and his hobby after retiring was sitting in his yard feeding the birds and squirrels.

Recently, Gene moved from Staten Island to North Creek.

 He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law & uncle.  Predeceased in death by his wife, Phyllis of 56 years upon her passing, and his son James.

Gene is survived by his daughter Kathleen Syvertsen, his son-in-law Norm Syvertsen and his grandchildren Matthew and Taylor Syvertsen.  He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

At Gene’s request, there are no calling hours or funeral services scheduled. His final resting place will be with his wife and son at Ocean View Cemetary on Staten Island.
