Obituary of Joanne A. Jones

Please share a memory of Joanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

POTTERSVILLE: On July 7, 2024 in the midst of a long afternoon nap Joanne Jones (Logue) left behind her failing body so she could embark on her next adventure.  She hasn't left us, but has simply gone on to visit so many people she had been missing.

Joanne was born in Queens, NY on March 14, 1953 to the late Walter and Josephine Logue.  She left the city at age 12 to live in Bakers Mills with her grandparents, Arthur Sr and Josephine Hulse.  She called the area home for the rest of her life.

During her stay here, she attended Johnsburg Central School.  She was forced to leave school and was unable to graduate when she became pregnant for her son.  She later pursued and received her GED, a huge accomplishment for her and her family.  She was employed at many local businesses over the years including Nice n Easy, Stewart's, The Summit at Gore, the Northwoods Club, the White Pine Restaurant, Gore Mountain and CWI.

Joanne's passions in life includes cooking for friends, family and customers; digging Herkimer diamonds with Paul; fishing and gardening with John; enjoying time at camp with Chad; making jewelry, and helping those around her. She loved listening to her grandson play his violin and seeing what new outfits her fashionista granddaughter put together.

Joanne's life was never easy. She worked hard and in recent years experienced several health issues.  She never gave up though, and fought a tough battle to the end.  And when she could no longer fight, she simply shifted gears and direction and followed the path that involved no suffering.  She has always worked hard and deserved a much-needed break.

Joanne was predeceased by her first companion Paul Farruggia, as well as Paul's parents Maurice and Edna, his brothers Bobby and Jimmy and sister Fran.  She was also predeceased by her second companion and husband John Vandeursen.  Also leaving before her were her parents, grandparents, sister Caroline and uncles Roy (Irene) Hulse and Arthur Hulse Jr.

Surviving her are her husband Chad Jones and his parents Harris and Charlotte Hewitt and his sister, Michelle Jones.  Also, her son Paul (Christine) Logue of North Creek; daughter Theresa (Vince) Gallab of Canajoharie, NY; bonus daughter Erika (Don) Mahoney of Chestertown; forever daughter in law Jessica (Scott) Edick; grandchildren Terry Young, Faraj and Zahra Gallab, Gabriel Mahoney, Lauretta Mahoney, Thomas Pereau and Carol (Cody) Welch; great grandchildren Aria, Declan and Myles, and her big buddy Waylon.  She is also survived by her sisters Truddie "Sissy" (Fred) Comstock and Marie Darnell, brother and kindred spirit John (Patricia) Logue, brother Val (Wanda) Almosnino and her aunt Margaret (Arthur Jr) Hulse, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

We will never forget Joanne's awesome fudge and lasagna, her love for The Beatles (a love Faraj and Zahra also share), her beautiful gardens and her resilience.  Very little kept her down in life.  This last battle was simply paving her way to a better place, one without chronic health issues and daily struggles and one where she will be surrounded by all those who moved on before her.  Paul, John, Caroline, Percy, Fran...  Love her and hug her for us.  We will miss her immensely.

Much gratitude and appreciation go to the staff at Elderwood in Ticonderoga for making Mom's stay there as pleasant as possible.  Your love, compassion and care for our mother touched us all.  Thank you for keeping her comfortable during her last days with us.
