GRANVILLE: Roy Dean Meyers, 91 years old, passed away during a solar eclipse following a long period of declining health on April 8, 2024.

Dean was born June 15, 1932 to the late Floyd and Marion Adelia (Johnson) Meyers in Elma, NY.  He was a small baby weighing only 4 ¾ pounds, his mother keeping him warm in a shoe box on the oven door.  He always told us he was the first hippie in Lake George, moving there on his own form Western NY his senior year of high school, living in a tent in the woods for a period of time while attending school and working.

Dean served in the United States Army in Korea where he was wounded in action in the Battle of Pork Chop Hill, receiving the purple heart medal. After returning from the Army, he went to work as an electrician for Galloway Electric in Lake George, and later retired from the Department of Environmental Conservation as a regional manager in 1990.  Dean was married to Marcia (Dunning) Meyers from May 15, 1954 until her death two days before their 66th anniversary in 2020. Dean and Marcia raised five daughters in lake George before moving to Granville.

Dean was a wonderful father; he could fix anything and was an inventor, writer, woodworker, craftsman and so much more.  Dean was a caregiver to his wife in her declining years, visiting her in the nursing home or hospital every day for many months until she was able to return home where he cared for her until her earthly end.

Dean was predeceased by parents, wife Marcia, infant brother Donald, brother Robert, as well as lifelong friends Chuck and Millie Straight and Gordon and Betty Ellsworth.

He is survived by daughters Mecleta Murray of Fort Edward, Michele (Johnnie) Langdon of Lillington, NC, Marliease (Jack) Baker of Adirondack, NY, Marcella Yole of Fort Edward, and Marla Meyers (Ted) of Trinity, FL; sister Patricia (Lanny) Blum of Warsaw, NY; grandchildren Amanda, Jarred, Heather, Chrissy, and Jessica; great grandchildren Alayna and Emily; several nieces and nephews and family friend Tina Augustine.
