Obituary of Richard A. Emard

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

STONY CREEK: Richard Arthur Emard passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, with his family by his side.  Richard was born in Norwalk, CT on October 18, 1946, to Richard Emard and Eileen (Klopp) Emard.

Dick was a licensed electrician by trade for over 50 years, owning and operating Emard Electric in both CT and NY with residential and commercial projects such as Broadway Starlight Express, as well as residential projects outside the US on the islands of Saint John and Saint Thomas. However, his true passion was always horses and the more relaxed lifestyle of a small town. It was because of this passion that later in life he moved to Stony Creek, NY where he opened Stirrups and Spurs Stables and eventually met his partner, Vicki.

In his final years, Dick became Generac certified in order to provide the much-needed backup generators in and around the surrounding areas of Stony Creek.  This was a game changer for many who for as long as they could remember had struggled year after year without power during the many winter storms, for sometimes weeks at a time.  During his busiest year, Dick installed over 200 units.  Finally, in the last few years, Dick and Vicki opened an Airbnb where they hosted and catered to the many families visiting the area annually.  The level of hospitality these families received from Dick and Vicki garnered rave reviews which resulted in many repeat customers.

Dick and Vicki enjoyed many years together both in Stony Creek and Puerto Morales, Mexico where they visited for a month or more each year. It was the perfect fit for them being another small-town setting, with friendly people, a relaxed atmosphere, and the added bonus of beautiful weather.  This became like a second home to them where they were considered family by many.

Dick was intelligent, creative, inventive, hardworking but most of all just fun to be around! Over his 75+ years, he had many aliases given to him by his MANY lifelong friends and family:  Dicky (by his mom), Dad, Tricky Dick (his CB radio handle), Papa Richard or The Mayor (by Puerto Morales locals), and finally, grandpa which turned out to be his favorite.

Dick is survived by his partner of 25 years Vicki (Jones) Monthony of Stony Creek, NY; his daughter Dana (Emard) Nunes, husband Joe, and their two children, Gage and Rylie Nunes of Danbury, CT; daughter Kristin Emard and long-time partner Mark Canestrari of Bethel, CT; son Richard Emard, wife Natelia (Langellier) Emard and their two children Evan and Eleanor Emard of Bethel, CT; stepdaughter Bridgett (Jones) Nelson, husband Wes Nelson and their three children Audrey Bills, Loki Nelson and Willow Nelson of Athol, NY., and his first wife Dawn (Lato) Emard whom he shared 17 years of marriage.  He was predeceased by both his parents and his brother Kevin Emard.

There will be a get together celebration of Dick’s life at a later date.
