Russ, you built things that will endure for years, and left Cy, Carter and Casey to carry your legacy. Mom, Dad and Jerry would be proud. At your services I told of the trials and tribulations of growing up with you, and of the transformation that took place as you had your own kids. But I didn't speak of the 'keys' for Christmas, nor of my first fisher, nor the one time we fought as if to kill each other. There is too much - our lives were too integrated in spite of how different we were. I hope you heard everything everyone said. We shall raise the rafters with a Hubba-Hubba for Skinocki next summer.
Most importantly, I will do all that I can to help Cy, Carter and Casey endure and accept your loss, pursue their dreams and have lives of which you would be proud. I know you would be proud of them now, in this most difficult of moments. Each is making sacrifices that should not be asked of them, and exhibiting strength and wisdom beyond their years. And what would make you most proud of all, they are working together building bridges worthy of your craftsmanship. Our lives will never be the same. But you taught us all how to do what we need to endure, to accept, and to honor your memory. Thanks for all the years, all the battles, all the work, all the memories, for everything. I will miss you always, Dan.

Russ was my friend and "big brother" for 5 awesome pre-seasons and closed sessions at FLC. We built cabins, dug holes, felled trees, put in new docks, fixed roofs and did a whole host of other jobs while sharing great times together. Work was never dull and I will always remember him with great fondness. Amy, Cy, Carter and Casey - I love you all and you are in my thoughts constantly.

It is with enormous internal pain I finally write these words I had until now been able to address. Through the 30 years I have been able to call Russ a friend, I have watched a teenager, filled with anxiety and quick temper, attack the trails of life with will and vigor. A formidable physical specimen, Russ could be intimidating by his mere presence. However, inside was a soft and caring man. Time and growth allowed us all to witness a beautiful transformation. I remember a moment early in our years when Russ had asked me to help teach him how to hit a softball to the right side of the field. I was more than happy to assist, as the FLC ball supplies were dwindling with each forceful swing he took landed another ball toward the science shop..or worse yet, the woods! That fist long fly to right and over the lodge hill ended with a loud thud as it caromed off the camp van in the lodge driveway. The smile he had on his face was priceless and when he looked my way his intimidating presence melted away on the spot. I knew then, we'd be friends for life.
I grieve not only for his family, but the bountiful numbers of friends who loved him and will now and always cherish their own wonderful moments. I'll keep that smile in my memory forever. I love ya Russ..

Rusty was almost always there to greet me when I returned to Forest Lake Camp for the reunions. I have such fond memories of watching him play basketball and softball while I was a camper. Rusty was like a big brother at times, while a best friend during others. His wide smile is something I will never forget, as well as the mischievous look in the glint of his eyes during others. He will be sorely missed.

To think that Russ - such a strong, active, and solid person -is gone is hard to accept. A highlight of my annual pilgrimage to Jake's Slobberfest was catching up with Russ - and complimenting him on the excellent work he'd been doing on the place. In fact, I think there is a close parallel to be drawn between the sturdy and solid woodwork Russ built and the kind of person he was. His work - and his presence - will endure and will be missed.
My condolences to his family and loved ones, and my apologies for not being able to be there. Russ is in my thoughts and prayers today.

I remember 4th grader, Rusty, as a little blond haired fellow with a charming smile.
I am having a hard time with this death. Rusty was the same age as our daughter Debra, was in her class & a friend.
It reminds us that loss doesn't always depend on age but can happen to anyone at anytime.
It also reminds us that we are never prepared for loss of our young people, because Rusty is still that blond haired 4th grader with the charming smile in my memory.
Rest in peace, Rusty, you are still with us and always will be.

Although I did not know Russ well, I heard much about him through my sister-in-law, Dana, and nephews, Kyle and Jason. What I heard was that he had a great capacity for caring and touched everyone in his home town and surrounding area in some way. He was a great friend and support for Dana and the boys for many years in Warrensburg in a lot of ways. Every time I visited Dana and the boys, her house had another great upgrade from Russ's hard work and artistry.
Condolences and love to Dana, Kyle, Jason, and Russ's family and friends. ~Lisa, Brian, Valerie, and Emily Tassinari

Dear Russ,
We are so thankful to have been closer these recent years. We appreciate all that you have done for us since Dad passed and regret that we did not get to work with you on our latest project building the garage and tower. It would have been one-of-a-kind.
Your thoughtfulness and kindness toward Paisley and Winnie was very sweet, the gifts you left for them were a nice surprise.
Cy, Carter and Casey are lucky to have had you for their Dad.
The Combs men are good at building things; houses, dreams and character. You were no exception.
