Obituary of Janice L. Linn

Thurman: Janice L. Linn of Thurman passed peacefully on Saturday, November 24th, at Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness. Born Janice McGovern on June 24, 1946 in Hempstead, she spent much of her life in Queens. She has happily resided with her devoted husband, Scott Volk in Thurman since 1987. Janice is survived by her son, George and his wife, Suzie and their two children, George V. and Brooke. The eldest child of a large family, Janice also leaves behind three sisters; Christine, Louise and Gayle and two brothers; Charlie and John as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Janice counted many friends among her family; these include Ihor, Jack, Leslie, Michael, Mark, Jamie, Bruce and Caroline. In Thurman, Janice delighted in receiving visits from her family, including her two grandchildren and her many friends. She loved festive parties and cooking generous holiday meals. In her spare time she gardened, worked with stained glass and tended to the household’s parade of pets, including Blu-Blu, Zig-Zag, Ebonezer and Toodles the inimitable pot-bellied pig. As the story goes, it took some convincing for Janice to move with Scott to the Adirondacks, but in the end, love won out and Janice headed north. Her only demands were that Scott keep the wood-burning stove to a tropical heat and the washer, dryer and television in working order. At the time she had not bargained on the longevity of the irascible potbellied-pig, Toodles, nor her husband’s curious paternal dedication to the animal. This to she bore with the saintly patience and un-waning smile for which she is celebrated. Although not subscribing to any formal religion, Janice had a strong faith in the afterlife. In her final days she looked forward to being reunited with the family and friends that she knew were waiting for her. Janice worked for AT&T and NYTEL for over 30 years until retiring in 1991. After retirement she worked for various insurance companies in the Glens Falls area until the decline of her health. Dr. Joseph Mihindu was her physician for the last 12 years and his dedication, hard work, and loving gentle care provided Janice with the best possible quality of life. Her loved ones are forever indebted to him. Upon meeting Janice it was typical to instantly like her, and soon afterwards love her. She had a contagious personality that was nearly impossible to ignore. She added so much more to so many lives and these contributions will not be lessened in the least by her physical absence. All who knew her agree that Janice was gentle, kind, generous with her affection. Through good times and bad, she demonstrated indomitable inner strength, which was exceeded only by her inner-beauty. Janice will be missed by all who ever came to know her. There will be no formal services, but at her request, a large party will be held to properly and honestly celebrate her love and her life.
