Obituary of Alice M. Waters

Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

WEVERTOWN: Alice M. Waters (VanGuilder), 84, of Wevertown, NY, daughter of the late Richard VanGuilder and Marjorie Dunkley (Harvey), passed away peacefully at home after a short battle with cancer on December 31, 2022.

Alice came into this world on March 9, 1938 at home in Chestertown, NY. She graduated from Pottersville High School and went directly to work after.  Alice had numerous jobs throughout her life but the one she is most proud of was her 37 years working as the best cashier at Grand Union in Chestertown.  Everyone who knew Alice loved her.

When not working, Alice most enjoyed spending time with her family. Word search and game shows were her enjoyment when not out gallivanting the roads with her granddaughter.  Alice had a hard life but she radiated the most optimistic spirit no matter what her situation.  Someone else always came first to Alice, especially the numerous people throughout the community that considered her “Grandma”.

Preceding Alice in death is her brother George Gordon VanGuilder.

Left to cherish Alice’s memory is her daughter Crystal Washburn and her life partner Donald Clark Jr.; sons Richard (Caroleen) Ashline, Bruce (Brenda) Ashline and Lenny (Dawn) Waters; stepsons Jason (Karen) Waters and Chris (Christine) Waters; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donations in Alice’s memory can be made to High Peaks Hospice, 454 Glen St., Glens Falls, NY 12801 or ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929, online at aspca.org

Per Alice’s wishes there are no services scheduled. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
