Obituary of Patricia Anne Bartlett

Patricia “Trish” Anne (Geng) Bartlett It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the death of Patricia “Trish” Anne Geng Bartlett of Chestertown, NY. Trish, as she was known by all who knew and loved her, unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, June 9th, 2022 at the age of 56. She is survived by her son, Johnny Bartlett, her brother, Danny Geng, sister-in-law, Carol Geng and fiancé, Charlie Loomis. Trish was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Larry and Joanne Geng. Trish was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on March 15th, 1966 to Larry and Joanne Geng. She was their second child, following her “big brother” Danny. Trish had the fortune of being part of a closely-knit and very loving family. Joanne, a soft-spoken and very gracious woman, took great care of the household and did so always perfectly dressed, not a hair out of place and even made sure to apply her lipstick before preparing breakfast. A remarkable Mom, although both Trish and Danny always joked she was never truly a good cook. When it came to Larry, Trish was a self-proclaimed “Daddy’s girl” and was very close with her Dad, even following him into the real estate business for a few years. When Larry initially became ill while Trish was still in high school, she spent much of her time helping to care for him. His passing, in her words, “ripped out my heart”. When Joanne became ill a number of years later, Trish moved her mother into her home. Trish and Danny, with the help of Charlie, Johnny and Carol, took unwaveringly loving care of Joanne up until she passed a few years ago. The Geng family moved from Bridgeport to Wayne, NJ when Trish was still young. She attended school there and graduated Wayne Hills High School in 1984. While attending Wayne Hills, Trish met her two closest friends Margaret (Nick) Henry and Donna McGeough. These friendships have lasted over 40 years and have included a healthy amount of antics, a number of great vacations, countless visits and many marathon-length phone calls when they were not able to get together in person. Trish became part of both Margaret’s and Donna’s families, as they did, hers. The three have stuck together, all this time, through good times and life challenges. The depth and duration of these friendships, as well as the very many other friendships Trish had, is a testament to the person she was. Not only was she relentless in her devotion to others, her love, friendship and grace were profound. Trish loved hard and deeply, never missing an opportunity to let others know how much they meant to her and she always ended a phone call by saying, “Love you”. There was one particular person she absolutely loved that she didn’t even personally know, and if you had the fortune to meet Trish, this is one thing you’d be sure to learn quickly. This person, you might say her first teenage crush, is none other than the late John Denver. Trish adored him and his music and could always be found listening to, singing or humming one of his tunes. Her mother, who was also a talented artist, had drawn a picture of John Denver for Trish, which she treasured throughout the years. And, despite Trish’s shy nature, she bought the drawing to one of the John Denver concerts she attended and boldly asked for it to be signed, which it was. It can still be found proudly hung upon her living room wall. Following high school, Trish met and married her first (second if John Denver is considered) love, John Bartlett. Pursuing her passion of open spaces and everything country, Trish and John moved north and made their home in Vernon, NJ for a number of years. They welcomed a son, Johnny, on June 11th, 1993. Trish cherished being a Mom and found a new level of love and devotion when he was born. Johnny struggled with medical issues as a young child and Trish; the devout “Momma Bear” that she was, made certain he received the best care available. Her marriage to John did not withstand the test of time, and for a number of years it was Trish and Johnny. Her steadfast commitment to her son got him through and he has grown into a caring young man, sharing many of Trish’s great qualities. Professionally, Trish settled into a career in finance and worked for Lakeland Bank for many years. She enjoyed her work and those she worked with. It was there, at the bank, where Trish met a customer and fell in love. She met Charlie in 2014. Although the relationship began slowly as friends, Trish decided to go out one evening (with a bit of a push from her friends) to see Charlie’s band perform. Following that evening, their love quickly grew and they eventually decided to move in together. Trish, Johnny and Charlie lived as a loving family, traveling and enjoying every moment of their new lives. Charlie, wanting to make their relationship even stronger and more permanent, proposed to Trish. And, much to his happiness, she accepted the proposal. Having found her soul mate, there was just one more thing missing from Trish being able to realize her perfect life. And, that was to live at Lake George. Trish had vacationed at Lake George throughout her child and adulthood and it was her special “heaven on earth” place. She had always said that she felt she belonged there. It was a very happy moment in her life when she learned Charlie loved the area as well. They both wanted to move there, however, she did not want to leave her position with Lakeland Bank. Fortunately, the bank agreed to her working remotely and all of the pieces in Trish’s life were finally coming together perfectly. Two years ago, following lots of planning and preparation, Trish, Johnny and Charlie moved into their new home in Chestertown NY. Her excitement and happiness were unparalleled – she was finally in her imagined heaven on earth. Life was, as she would say, “pretty great up here!” To borrow from John Denver, the country roads took Trish home, to the place where she belonged. She spent an amazing two years there and was anticipating many more. Unfortunately she was able to enjoy this new chapter of her life for only two years. The world has lost a beautiful soul, but only in body and never in heart and memories. At her request, her final resting place will be where she always longed to live.
