Obituary of J. Robert Morse

Johnsburg and Queensbury: J. Robert Morse, 84, formerly of Johnsburg and most recently residing on Kenwood Circle, Queensbury, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006 in Florida after suffering a heart attack while on a cruise with his beloved wife, Marian. Born December 23, 1921 in New York City, he was the son of the late Robert and Frances (Moulton) Morse. Bob graduated from Dobbs Ferry High School and went on to earn his B.A. from Hobart College in Geneva in 1943. He served in the US Army from 1942-1946 during WW II. He was wounded in battle and received the Purple Heart. He continued to further his education earning his Master Degree and was awarded the John R. Mott Fellow from Springfield College in Mass. in 1965. Bob began his 33 year career with the YMCA as the Youth Director and becoming the Executive Director in Tarrytown, Utica, Little Falls, Saratoga Springs, Eastern Queens and Dutchess County. He and his wife of 37 years, Marian (Bernhoft) Morse moved to Johnsburg in 1979. Bob was associated with Pearsall Realty for 12 years, chaired the North Creek Bloodmobile for eight years and served on the Board of Directors of Hudson Headwaters Health Network for nine years. He also served on the Board and as a member of the Choir of the North Creek and Johnsburg United Methodist Churches since 1979, member of the North Creek Rotary and Past President and recipient of Phil Harris Fellowship and 1994 Community Service Award. He served as Past President of the Adirondack Tri-County Health Care, Inc., member of the Retired YMCA Directors Association, Gore Organization of Frequent Skiers, 70 + Club and the Festival of Praise Choir. Bob was beloved and highly respected member of the community and was instrumental in raising over $300,000 for the Adirondack Tri-County Health Care Center, second wing addition. Survivors include his wife, Marian of Queensbury; his son, John F. Morse of Hyde Park; his daughters, Cathlene Anne Brady of Salisbury, Maryland, Patricia Hernandez, of Victory Mills; his twin brother, Dr. Francis F. Morse and his wife, Carolyn of Greensboro, N.C.; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Bob’s family from 2-3:30 pm Thursday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Barclay, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls officiating. Internment with full military honors will be at the convenience of the family in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
