Dear Mike & Joan. So sorry for your loss. We were glad to know Dick. He was a kind & gentle man. I happily remember the tour he gave us of his workshop. May happy memories comfort you now. Peace.

Dear Joan and family, it was with deep sadness that we learned of Dick’s passing. He was a good friend to us for a very long time. We now live in Florida so willl be unable to attend services. We spent the afternoon remembering his life and the many funny things they enjoyed while working together. Please extend our regrets to the rest of the family. Please know that we share your sorrow.
Love,
Dick and Sharon Bapp

I just read my brother Mike’s post. And here we are some 56+ years later. We had to pose twice for this picture after Dad noticed that, in the first pose, I (Steven) was between Mike and Norman. Even toward the end of one of the toughest battles I’ve ever witnessed a person fight, he had the fun loving humor to have us line up in birth order. He followed that with, “There, that’s the way they came!” and a little chuckle. Dad also remained as photogenic as ever. I love his smile in this picture. This picture was taken on 11/10/19. Left to right are: Dad, Norman, Michael, Steven.
I often think how our dad kept us boys together, as Mike described, through what had to be an incredibly hard time for him at a time when it was not uncommon for families to be permanently split up under such circumstances. He is my hero.
He was the most selfless person I ever knew. He would actually trip over himself to lend a hand in the simplest task. He just simply couldn’t wait to help someone out. He had such a big heart.
I miss you already Dad. I can talk to you anytime now, and I do, but I’ll try to avoid the 7:00-8:00 PM hour so you can watch Vanna and Jeopardy in peace!
I hope you “made good time” on your way to Heaven Dad!
I love you.

This is a picture of (front left to right) myself (Michael), Norman, Dad’s brother (and our uncle) Roland and (back left to right) Steven and Dad... this was sometime after our mother had left us, probably within the first year or two of that event. Dad and Roland worked long hours on the construction of Interstate 87. As such, Dad could not care for us in a daily basis, at least not in the day to day sense of it. But he worked hard, and had us staying with a foster family for a couple of years. The foster family lived in one of the prison guard homes right next to Comstock Prison and I remember we used to sled on the hills right outside the prison walls. But I mostly remember with great fondness when he would come and pick us up from the foster family, most weekends, to spend time with him. When he arrived, we would run to him and jump in his arms. I remember that well, and it always makes me smile when I think or talk about it. To anyone that really knows Dad, they would say “That’s just who he was”...
