Thurman:
Carl L. Baker, 88, of Cameron Road, passed away, Friday, May 2, 2008 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a short illness.
Born April 29, 1920 in Thurman, he was the son of the late Lee and Mabel (Bunker) Baker.
Carl was a lifelong resident of the area and married, Doris G. Hall, one of 10 children of the Granville, Hall family on January 27, 1939 in Stony Creek.
He began his working years at International Paper in Corinth, Warrensburg Board and Paper and spent time as an independent logger. For 24 years, Carl was the refuse and landfill superintendent for the Town of Thurman before his retirement in 2000.
His favorite pastime included spending time with his family, gardening, fishing and chewing tobacco.
Besides his parents, his infant son, Carl Jr., and son, Kenneth C. Baker, brothers, Carson and Wilbur and sister, Luella Whitaker; grandson, Adam Baker, have all predeceased him.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Doris G. Baker of Athol; his three children: Gary Baker and his companion, Donna of Mount Laurel, NJ; Gayle Braley of Warrensburg; and Carol Ann Darrah and her husband, William of New Milford, CT; one sister, Irene Hall of Warrensburg; brothers, Albert Baker of Thurman, Floyd Baker and his wife, Joyce of Thurman, Leonard Baker and his wife, Neidra of Moravian Falls, N.C.; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren (soon to be nine), and three great-great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Carl’s family from 1-2 pm Monday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2 pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Leonard, Pastor of the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will follow in Warrensburg Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Lung Association.
