Obituary of Clare L. LaBar

Minerva Clare Louise LaBar, 72, passed away, Friday evening, June 23, 2006 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. Born December 10, 1933 in Ticonderoga, she was the daughter of the late Charles V. and Eleanor (Smith) LaBar of Minerva. Clare was raised in Minerva and graduated from Minerva Central School in 1951. She furthered her education, graduating from Alfred University in 1955, earning a BS in Nursing and her RN certification from the State of New York. She later was awarded an MS in Nursing from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Her entire career was spent in nursing and related fields, having practiced in Ann Arbor, San Francisco, London (where she received a certificate in neurological nursing), Albany, New York City, Atlanta, Kansas City and Raleigh, where she worked variously as staff nurse, head nurse, supervising nurse and consulting nurse. She also worked on the staffs of the American Nurses Association and the North Carolina Nurses Association. After retirement, Clare moved to Geneva and later to Queensbury, residing at The Glen at Highland Meadows. Besides her professional endeavors, Clare had avocational interests in decorating, specialized collecting, scrapbook creation, family history, church activities and research and writing on various topics of interest. Regardless of where she was located, Clare maintained a continuing interest in friends, relatives and events in her hometown of Minerva. Survivors include her twin brother, Frank Marshall LaBar and his wife, Sandy of Minerva, her older brother, Bruce Adin LaBar and his wife, Marion of Princeton, NJ; several nephews and a niece, as well as several grand nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Clare’s life will be conducted 3 pm Thursday, June 29, 2006 at the Minerva Baptist Church with the Rev. Trudy Pettibone, Pastor officiating. Friends may call on her family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at a later date in the Minerva Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may take the form of donations to the Minerva Baptist Church Memorial Fund, Minerva, NY or to the Minerva Chapter of Dollars for Scholars, Minerva Central School, Olmstedville, NY 12857.
