Obituary of Winifred H. Mayes

Warrensburg: Winnie Mayes, 86, of Gold Street, passed into the loving arms of our Lord and joined the other angels in heaven on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Winnie was born on May 11, 1923 to John and Cora Mae (Wait) Kiniry in Fort Plain, New York. Winnie graduated from Fort Plain High School in 1941 and married George A. “Mickey” Mayes on June 6, 1942. Winnie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to six daughters, thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Winnie was predeceased by her infant brother, John Kiniry II, her father, mother and step-father, Freddie Down, Tim Everts, granddaughter Heidi’s, husband, and Jerry Combs, her daughter Colleen’s husband. Mickey, Winnie’s husband of 65 years died in June, 2007. Winnie is survived by her six daughters: Sharon and Adam Good of South Glens Falls, Colleen Combs, Sheila and Ed Carpenter, Mickeylee and Rusty Monroe, Sharie and Jay Walerstein, all of Warrensburg, and Garnet and John Neve of Queensbury; her grandchildren: Sunday (Combs) and Derrick Conine of Thurman, J Combs of Warrensburg, Kristi Carpenter of Rochester, NY, Bridgette Carpenter, Amanda (Carpenter) and Jason Hupe of Warrensburg, Ed Carpenter and his fiance, Marcy Gladdys of Milford, MA, Michelle (Monroe) and Bill Morton of Raleigh, NC, Heidi (Monroe) Everts and her companion, Stacy Jones of Pierson, Florida, Darcy Monroe and her companion, Dave Bates of Fort Ann, Jessica Walerstein of Clifton Park, NY, Marissa Walerstein of Glens Falls, NY, Ericka Walerstein of Hudson Falls, NY, and Vallen Mayes of Gloversville : and her great-grandchildren: Paisley and Winnie Conine of Thurman, Carter and Quentin Carpenter of Warrensburg, Jacob, Noah and Luke Morton of Raleigh, North Carolina, Tiffany Everts of Pierson, Florida, and Christopher Roselle of Gloversville. Winnie was a communicant of St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church in Warrensburg and an active member of the Warrensburg and the Warren County Democratic Committees for over 30 years. Winnie worked as bookkeeper for Oak Street Oil Company and for the Outlet Barn in Warrensburg. During the 1960’s, Winnie made many friends in the north-country while managing her Friendly Home Toy Party business. Friends may call on Winnie’s family from 2-5 pm Sunday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Monday at St. Cecilia’s RC Church, Main St, Warrensburg with Fr. Paul Cox officiating. Rite of committal will take place in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery in the spring. Pallbearers will be Edgar Carpenter, Ed Carpenter, Rusty Monroe, Bill Morton, Derrick Conine, and J Combs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 3802 Main St., Warrensburg, NY 12885.
