Glens Falls: Roland M. “Sonny” McCane, 76, formerly of Warren Street, passed away, Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Pines at Glens Falls following a long illness. Born August 23, 1931 in Glens Falls, he was the son the late Milford and Edith (Eldridge) McCane. Sonny was raised in Indian Lake and graduated from Lake George High School in 1949. He enlisted in the US Army in 1950 and made the military his career for 20 years. He saw combat in Korea and also served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Upon his retirement from the Army, Sonny returned home and saw to his mother’s needs during her final years. He also delivered the Post Star newspaper throughout the north-country for many years. His favorite pastimes included puzzles, kids, his pet cats, fishing and the annual White Water Derby. Sonny was an avid reader and following a stroke, he enjoyed watching television and visiting with friends and family. He attended the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Pottersville in the past. Besides his parents, his step sister, Pearl White predeceased him. Survivors include his siblings, Dorothy “Dot” Lomax of North Creek, Donald McCane of Statesville, N.C., Mary Wheeler and her husband, Fred of Jacksonville, FL, Morgan McCane and his wife, Linda of North River, Helen Allen and her husband, Joe of Johnsburg; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services with full military honors will be conducted 11 am Thursday at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. There are no calling hours scheduled.
