Harold A. French, 65, of King Street, passed away, Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the North Adams Commons Nursing Home in North Adams, MA following a long illness.
Born on July 12, 1942 in Warrensburg, he was the son of the late Arthur and Helen “Betty” (Russell) French.
Harold was a lifelong resident of the area. Following his graduation from Bolton High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam.
Upon returning home from his military service, he married Shirley Dorrance on September 11, 1966.
Harold began his career with the Warren County DPW, and went on to serve 25 years as a mail carrier with the US Postal Service in Warrensburg before retiring in 1998.
His favorite pastimes included participating with his daughter in the Adirondack Gymkhana Association, four wheeling, camping, hunting, all around handyman, and spending time with his beloved dog, Dixie.
Besides his parents, he is also predeceased by his two sisters: Joyce French and Bonnie Harrington; brother in law, Ronald Dorrance and sister in law, Janet Langworthy.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Shirley L. French, of Warrensburg; his two daughters: Sherry French and her fiancée Scott Ovitt, of Warrensburg; Susan Ovitt and her husband Jody, of Diamond Point; three grandchildren: James (TJ) Cullen, U.S. Army- Iraq; Robert Cullen of Warrensburg; Kelsey Tubbs of Diamond Point; three brothers: Terry French of Nashville, TN; Ronald French and his wife Karen, of St. Johns Island, SC; Arthur French and his wife Lori, of Sioux Falls, SD; two brother in laws: James Dorrance of Queensbury; Stanley Langworthy of Queensbury; and sister in law, Caroline Dorrance of Glens Falls; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Harold’s family from 1 to 3 pm on Sunday, at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A funeral service will follow the visitation at 3 pm at the funeral home with Pastor David Butler of the Kenyontown United Methodist Church, officiating.
Spring burial will take place in the Warrensburg Cemetery.
