Donald J. Rohm, 77, of Rob Moffitt Road, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born May 5, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Charles and Esther (Leveille) Rohm.
Following his graduation from Merchantville High School in 1953, he enlisted in the Army National Guard.
After Don was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard, he began his working career with New Jersey Bell Telephone Company where he remained for 33 years.
He met Kathleen J. Ostenson in 1969 and the couple eventually wed on June 11, 1976 in Woodbury, NJ.
Don and his family moved to the Adirondacks in 1986 and purchased the Abba Dabba Dew Campground.
Later, Don worked on many various projects with Charles Wood including the Double “H” Hole in the Woods Ranch.
He always had the ability to make people smile. Don and his family could often be found at birthday parties and winter carnivals dressed as a clown. He and his family would perform the “magic acts” to brighten the children’s days.
Don was also a member of the North Warren Volunteer Emergency Squad for several years.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters, Ruth Shinn and Jean Faulds; and his brother, Karl Rohm.
Don leaves behind his beloved wife of 34 years, Kathleen Rohm of Chestertown; his children: William Rohm and his wife, Valerie of Chestertown; Michael Rohm of Chestertown; Karl Rohm of Paulsboro, NJ; Donald Rohm of Newark, DE; David Rohm and his wife, Maureen of Laurel, MD; Marie Smith and her husband, J.R. of North Delaware; Jennifer Molnar and her husband, Chris of Chestertown; his grandchildren: Elizabeth, Danielle, Valerie, LeAnn, Michael, Nicholas, Cody, Danielle, Bobby, J, Kade, and Jordan; and his great-grandchildren: Alexandra, Will, Isabella, Kayla, Abbie, and Shane; his sister, Naomi Gartzke of PA; and his brother, Bruce Rohm of FL; family friend, Helen Miner; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Donald’s family from 2 to 4 pm, Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 4 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Herrmann, pastor of the Thurman Baptist Church, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: The American Cancer Society of the American Heart Association.
