Obituary of Frank M. Reed

Johnsburg: Frank M. Reed, 98, of Route 8, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. Born on October 1, 1910 in Amboy, he was the son of the late Hamilton and Mary (Thomson) Reed. During his youth, he worked at a bakery in Fulton, and also at the Gore Mountain Lodge. Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, where he proudly served his country overseas during World War II. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in North Africa, France, and Italy where he was able to witness the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Following his honorable discharge, he married the love of his life, Jean Morehouse on November 25, 1945. Frank was a man of many talents. He worked as a carpenter in Syracuse, Glens Falls, and North River before his retirement in 1975. He was a long time charter member of the Johnsburg Volunteer Fire Company and served as treasurer until 1963. As a member of the Johnsburg Methodist Church, he served as treasurer and lay leader for several years. He was well known for his famous dinner rolls he made for bake sales, dinners, and various church events. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his infant daughter, Mary Jane Reed; and his siblings: Pearl Tanner, Marion Turk, Iva Schwartz, and Herman Reed. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Reed; his daughter, Linda Gonyea and her husband, Lawrence of Glens Falls; his grandchildren: Lawrence Gonyea, Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Glens Falls; Matthew Gonyea and his wife, Jeni of Glens Falls; his great-grandsons, Logan and Wyatt Gonyea of Glens Falls; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Frank’s family from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 4479 State Route 28, North River. A Funeral service to celebrate Frank’s life will be conducted at 10 am, Wednesday, at the Johnsburg United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the funeral service in Bates Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's memory may be made to the Johnsburg United Methodist Church, PO Box 98, Johnsburg.
