Obituary of Jay L. Freebern

North Creek: Jay L. “Junior” Freebern, 78, of North Creek, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 19, 1927 in North Creek, he was the son of the late Henry and Addie (Roblee) Freebern. Junior was a lifelong resident of the area. After attending North Creek High School, he served in the US Navy during WW II. He married Julia Moriarty on July 9, 1949. The couple lived and raised their family in North Creek. For over 30 years, Junior and his bother, Gene owned and operated Freebern’s Plumbing and Heating Co. in North Creek. He went on to become the Water Commissioner of the Town of Johnsburg for an additional 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the North Creek Baptist Church, North Creek Vol. Fire Co., and the North Creek American Legion Post 629. Junior loved spending time with his family, his work and enjoying the outdoors. Besides his parents, his five brothers, Henry, Carson, Hugh, Gene and Hartsle Freebern, and two sisters, Loretta Freebern and Louise Roblee have all predeceased him. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Julia Freebern of North Creek; his two children, Joseph Freebern and his wife, Ellen of Mahopac, Connie Freebern and her husband, Scott Severance of Queensbury; his four grandchildren, Kate Severance, Alexander Freebern, Clare Severance and Jonathan Freebern; four sisters, Agnes Villeneuve and her husband, John, Mary Cornwall, Jane Swinton and her husband, Rolland and Anne Porter and her husband, Patrick all of North Creek; brother in law, Donald Roblee of Warrensburg; sisters in law, Bernadette Freebern of Hudson Falls and Justine Freebern of North River; Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 5-8 pm today (Friday) at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Members of the American Legion will conducted a service at 7:00 pm at the funeral home during the visitation. Funeral services will be conducted 11 am Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Trudy Pettibone, Pastor of the North Creek Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, North Creek. Junior’s family expresses a heart felt thank you to his family and friends for their help and support during his final days. They would also like to thank members of the Johnsburg EMS, the staffs at Sloan-Kettering Memorial in New York and C.R. Wood Cancer Center in Glens Falls.
