Obituary of James O'Neill

James (Jim) O’Neill, 86, of Warrensburg, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2005 at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on August 22, 1919, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Cushing) O’Neill. Jim was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Army under General George Patton in the European Theater of Operations. Jim was active in many community activities both in Mineola, where he lived for many years and later in Warrensburg. He was a volunteer fireman and active with the Warrensburg VFW Post 4821. He was also a past president of the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce. After retiring from the NYS school system where he worked for 18 years, Jim and his wife, Claire moved to Warrensburg. The couple owned and operated Ashes Bar & Hotel in Warrensburg from 1977 to 1985. Jim spent much of his time volunteering for CARITAS and Lifeline during his later years. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Agnes Claire O’Neill of Warrensburg; his children, Claire Brockmann and her husband Peter of Monroe; Patricia Imhof and her husband Bruce of Frederick, MD; Thomas O’Neill and his wife Audrey of Ballston Spa, NY; his sister, Mary Wheeler of White Lakes; his grandchildren, Terry Brockmann, Jim Brockmann, Barbara Mallory and her husband Larry, and Carolyn Brockmann; Amanda and Christopher Imhoff; Bryan O’Neill of Warrensburg; and great-grandchildren Brian and Sara of Mallory . Family and friends are invited and may call 6-9 pm Monday evening at Alexander Baker Funeral Home, Main Street, in Warrensburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 am Tuesday at St. Cecelia’s RC Church in Warrensburg with Father Joseph Anselment officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to CARITAS
