Obituary of Mary E. VanNostrand TenEyck

OLMSTEDVILLE Mary Emily VanNostrand TenEyck, a resident of Olmstedville, N.Y., and formerly of Beacon, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, surrounded by her family, at the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing Home, North Creek, N.Y., after a brief illness. She was 91. Born in Poughkeepsie on Feb. 22, 1916, she was the daughter of Evert Ira and Bessie May Hunter VanNostrand. On Oct. 1, 1938, she married Richard H. TenEyck, a former Beacon fire chief, who preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1993. Mary was a Gray Lady at the former Highland Hospital, Beacon. She worked in several garment and hat shops in Beacon. She enjoyed spending time in Myrtle Beach and in Echo Lake in the summer. She also enjoyed dancing, singing and sharing laughter with family and friends. She is survived by her son, Richard TenEyck and his wife, Kathleen, of Olmstedville; grandsons, Brian TenEyck of Minerva and Patrick Allen and his wife, Lucy, of Littleton, Colo.; a granddaughter, Jessica Perkins of Chestertown; three great-grandchildren: Brendon TenEyck, Zachary Allen, and Daniel Allen; a brother-in-law, Charles TenEyck of Glens Falls; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane TenEyck of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by her brother, Evert VanNostrand, and her sister, Lucille TenEyck. The family will receive their friends on Monday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to noon at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow St., Beacon. A funeral service will follow at noon in the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth Wonderland officiating. Burial will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to City of Beacon Fire Department, 13 South Ave., Beacon, NY 12508.
