Obituary of Robert A. Monroe

Chestertown: Robert A. “Bob” Monroe Sr., 66, of Rock Avenue, went into the arms of the Lord on May 16, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 17, 1943 in Brant Lake, he was the son of the late Richard and Cora (Raymond) Monroe. Bob lived a very happy and fulfilling life. He loved to go hunting, fishing, four wheeling, and camping with his family, who was very important to him. He enjoyed making his famous chili and cornbread that everyone loved. Family cookouts at his home were always very memorable. Bob cherished his family, friends, and his dog, Maggie. He will leave them with many stories and good memories. He lived life to the fullest and will be truly missed by everyone that knew him. Bob was employed at the Town of Chester Highway Department for many years. He was also employed at the Peckman Materials, Exit 16 truck stop where he was a mechanic, and also worked as a logger. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, James and his sister, Theresa. Survivors include his beloved wife of 33 years, Kathleen Monroe of Chestertown; his children: Kathy Hernandez and her husband, Alex of Pottersville; Melissa Monroe of South Glens Falls; Robert Monroe, Jr., and his wife, Christy of Maysville, NC; Travis Monroe of Chestertown; children from previous marriages: Marilyn McNutt and her husband, David of Queensbury; Kelly Brice and her husband, Fred of CA; Laura Busse and her husband, John of Glens Falls; Kimmie Monroe of South Glens Falls; Toby Monroe and his wife, Sheila of Corinth; Rodette Hemmy and her husband, John of Hudson Falls; Siblings: Dorothy Fish of Schroon Lake; Ada Cleveland of Hudson Falls; Burton and Viola Monroe of Warrensburg; Bernard and Bonnie Monroe of Warrensburg; Clifford Monroe of Brant Lake; Donald and Pam Monroe of Corinth; and Arnold (Bambie) Monroe of Bolton Landing. He is also survived by his 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob’s family would like to thank Maureen Linehan, the Warren County Health Nurse; Stephanie Wood who was Bob’s home health aide; his caregivers, LeeAnn Bedell, Robin Galusha, Heather Smith and Christopher Yathaw; and all of the family and friends that helped Bob throughout his illness. Friends may call on Bob’s family from 4 to 7 pm, Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am, Wednesday, at the funeral home with Rev. Richard Leonard, Pastor of the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Chester Rural Cemetery. Pall bearers include Robert Monroe, Jr., Travis Monroe, Michael Ross, Jr., Matt and Dan Ross, Steve and Craig Smith, Matt Simpson, and Bill Grinnell. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to Kathleen Monroe, 122 Rock Ave., Chestertown, NY 12817, to be put in trust for his youngest son, Travis.
