Peter D. Blair, 76, of Schroon River Road, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born February 27, 1939 in Jamaica, NY, he was the son of the late Henry and Edna (Blom) Blair.
Following his graduation from Huntington High School in 1957, Pete attended Franklin and Marshall University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in English.
He married Fay L. Torrey in Centerport, Long Island and shortly after, was drafted by the United States Army. Pete proudly served his country for two years in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1964.
He was a man of many talents, working for his father as a stock broker, as well as owner of a sporting goods store in Greenlawn, L.I. Eventually, Pete and his family relocated to Warrensburg where he began his employment with the Warren County Sheriff’s Department as a Corrections Officer, earning the rank of Sergeant during his 25 year employment, retiring in 2005.
Besides spending time with his family, Pete took great joy in taking care of his farm animals, fishing, reading, and cooking.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his son, Mark Blair.
He is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Fay Blair of Warrensburg; his children, David Blair of Albany, Matthew Blair of Arlington, WA, Susan Blair and her companion, Doug Hutchins of Hudson Falls; his siblings: Paul Blair and his wife, Cynthia of CT; John Blair and his wife, Pamela of CT; and James Blair and his wife, Judith of Lafayette, LA; grandchildren: Marissa Blair, Alexis Blair, Samantha Hutchins and Lucas Hutchins; four step-grandchildren: Brandon and Felicia Zsiros, Doug and Kristina Hutchins, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At Pete’s request, there are no calling hours or funeral services scheduled.
Services will be conducted privately at the convenience of his family.
Pete’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Christopher Hoy, as well as the staff at Fort Hudson Adult Daycare, Glens Falls Hospital and Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the outstanding care he received during his illness.
