Schenectady: Constance “Connie” A. Vernum, 69, of Leo Avenue, following a courageous battle with cancer, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Diamond Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in the company of her husband and her son. Born April 20, 1942 in Bolton Landing, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Evelyn Hill. Connie was a graduate of Bolton Central School. She lived the final 35 years of her life in Rotterdam with her ever devoted husband, Walter Vernum of Warrensburg. Together, the couple celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on October 6, 2011. Connie’s outgoing personality was enjoyed by many while she worked in hospitality and retail. Her greatest interests lie in nature, arts and crafts, and cooking gourmet meals for family and cherished friends. Connie was a devoted homemaker who adored children and animals, was an avid supporter of the Adirondack Red Wings, and a volunteer at Rotterdam Senior Center. Besides her parents, Connie is predeceased by her sister, Lucille Cameron and her brothers, Duane and Daniel Hill. She is survived by her beloved husband; her son, Darrell Duane Vernum of Austin, TX; her sister, Ronnette LaCross; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Constance’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled. The family wishes to thank the staff at Ellis Hospital (wing 6A), Diamond Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and her many loving friends for the outstanding care she received during her illness. A graveside service will be conducted at 12 pm, Monday, November 21, 2011, in Warrensburg Cemetery, Hudson St., Warrensburg with Rev. Peg Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308-3091.
