Warrensburg:
Alan R. Wood of Warrensburg, passed on Monday, April 18th 2011 at Mary's Haven in Saratoga Springs after a short battle with cancer.
Mr. Wood was born February 17, 1945 in Memphis, Tennessee to Elthan and Edna (Peacock) Wood. Alan graduated from Saratoga Springs High School. He then enrolled in the United States Navy in 1964. After a brief term, he returned home to start a family.
Alan resided in Saratoga most of his life working for the Golub Corporation. He held numerous positions at the Price Chopper on Railroad Place for over 30 years. Upon his retirement, he relocated to Warrensburg where he began his own lawn care operation which he ran until 2010. His love of the outdoors and his inability to remain still, prompted him to work for himself.
Alan enjoyed fishing, attending the stock car races in Malta and spending as much of his free time as he could with his children. Alan enjoyed his lawn business in addition to volunteering for his local church and assisting in delivery of Meals on Wheels to the elderly.
Alan is survived by his three children, two daughters, Taime Komp of Diamond Point and JoAnn Wood of Hudson Falls, and a son, James Wood of Saratoga Springs. In addition to two grandchildren, Aaliyah Artis and Jeremy Komp of Diamond Point. Also two sisters, Cindy Moczydlowsky of Ballston Spa and Debbie Ross of Greenfield Center.
The children would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Mary's Haven in Saratoga Springs. As well as the staff from Hospice. Mary's Haven opened their doors to the family in the darkest of times. Their acts of kindness will forever be in the families’ hearts and minds. They made such a difficult time a bit easier.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Mary's Haven.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be conducted 6:30 pm, Thursday evening, April 28th at the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church, 3890 Main St, Warrensburg with the Rev. Stephen Andrews, Pastor officiating.
