Obituary of Mary E. McAllister

Thurman: Mary E. McAllister, 74, of Bowen Hill Rd., passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born January 16, 1937 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Mildred (Nebot) Appel. Upon graduating from Teaneck High School in New Jersey, Mary attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. She married Charles R. McAllister on August 25, 1956, while he was serving a 4 year hitch in the U.S. Navy. Charlie was stationed aboard the Destroyer USS Stoddard, out of San Diego, CA, where the couple briefly took up residence. They quickly returned to New Jersey after Charlie’s honorable discharge in October of 1957. This move was followed by the birth of their only child, Michael in 1958. In 1967 Mary and her husband started a music related business, selling retail/wholesale items such as records, concert posters, T-shirts, and much more. In 1985 they sold the retail part of the business, while moving the wholesale aspect, family in tow to Johnsburg. She and Charlie were able to sell the remaining business and retire in 1998. In 2007, the couple relocated again, building a home in Thurman. Besides her husband, Charles of 55 years, Mary leaves behind her son, Michael M. McAllister, and his wife, Tracy, along with their young son, Sean, all of Warrensburg. Friends may call on Mary’s family from 4 to 6 pm, Sunday, January 23, 2011 at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow the visitation at 6:00 pm, Sunday at the funeral home.
